The City of Knoxville will host “City Business: Opportunities for Your Company” a free information and networking event sponsored by Knology on August 7th from 7:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the Foundry on the World’s Fair Site.

Senior directors from several city departments will be on hand to briefly discuss items including:

  • An overview of city projects scheduled to begin over the next 12 months
  • The “American Recovery and Reinvestment Act” or “stimulus funds” the City of Knoxville expects to receive and/or compete for, and what the city plans to do with those funds
  • Terms of contracting and subcontracting opportunities with the city
  • The anticipated date projects will be going out for bid, proposals or qualifications etc…

“We want to make businesses – particularly small companies – aware of the different opportunities available to them in terms of city projects,” said Mayor Bill Haslam, “We also want to help them be better prepared to bid on those projects. So this meeting is a good way to learn what’s out there and what businesses need to do to take advantage of the possibilities.”

The City of Knoxville is grateful to Knology for its support in making this event possible.

The City of Knoxville has either received or is currently seeking more than a dozen ARRA grants that could potentially total around $40 million. These funds would be used on local projects or initiatives and include several capital projects.

The conference will provide an opportunity for Knoxville-area companies – both large and small – to learn about the different possibilities to do business with the city during the upcoming year. It will also provide businesses with information, particularly concerning the potential ARRA-funded projects, that could help them be better prepared to compete for these contracts.
