The 75th Anniversary Re-dedication of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park will be on September 2nd and the public is invited. One of the many dignitaries that will be on hand is the Great Smoky Mountains National Park 75th anniversary ambassador, Dolly Parton. Ceremonies will begin at 11:15 a.m. and are expected to end around 1:00 pm. There is limited seating available to the public and will be based on a first-come, first- serve basis. A special email address, GRSMComments@nps.gov has been set up for ticket requests as requests must be received no later than August 24th. If you do not have internet access, you can call 865-436-7318, ext 258 and leave your name and phone #. However, the email system is highly recommended.
Those attending will be transported by charter buses from satellite locations in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and Cherokee, NC to the event at Newfound Gap. Newfound Gap road between Gatlinburg, Tennessee and Cherokee, NC will be closed on September 1st from 8 pm until 6 pm on September 2nd for this event.
Other dignitaries that will take part in this special event are: NC Governor Bev Perdue; Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen; US Senators from NC, Richard Burr and Kay Hagan; US Senators from Tennessee, Bob Corker and Lamar Alexander as well as Congressmen Heath Shular from NC, John J. Duncan and Phil Roe from Tennessee.
