Former Knoxville News Sentinel sports writer Drew Edwards has joined the University of Tennessee Athletics Department as the Assistant Director of Internet Communications.
Edwards will write feature stories for the UTSports.com and UTLadyVols.com Web sites on a wide range of topics surrounding Tennessee Athletics, its athletes and its coaches. Edwards’ efforts will give Tennessee a stronger web presence.
“UTSports.com and UTLadyVols.com are great platforms to provide the most in-depth and behind-the-scenes information to our audience,” Athletics Director Mike Hamilton said. “Edwards’ skills as a sportswriter and experience in working with the web will be a great asset for us as we work to improve our content for fans.”
Since January 2005, Edwards has worked at the Knoxville News Sentinel. As the preps editor he covered games and wrote feature stories on high school athletes in all sports. Most recently as the Tennessee football beat writer, Edwards wrote in-depth feature stories and posted online blogs centered around Tennessee football. Edwards has received numerous awards for his writing including first place in the 2009 Tennessee Sports Writers Association for news writing.
Edwards graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2003, majoring in journalism, and is a Knoxville native.
