Dial 2-1-1
With one phone call and only three numbers, 2-1-1, Tennessee residents anywhere in the state can get information about critical health and human services available in their community. Like 9-1-1 for emergencies and 4-1-1 for information, 2-1-1 is an easy-to-remember number to call when someone needs help or information about available resources, from basic needs like food, shelter, and utility assistance, to health care and employment information, to securing adequate care for a child or aging parent. No matter what the problem is, chances are a call to 2-1-1 will give you the information you need to get help. Trained information-and-referral specialists answer each call and listen to the concerns and questions of each caller in order to locate the resources the caller needs. All calls to 2-1-1 are free and confidential. To use 2-1-1, callers dial 2-1-1 from their landline or cell phone or visit online at www.211tn.org . There are companies that block the use of three digit numbers, other than 9-1-1, and callers can use the toll-free number, 1-866-588-4211, if they cannot dial 2-1-1 directly.
