The Great Gatlinburg Shark Race is scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 3 p.m. at Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies. Rubber sharks will be dropped into the Little Pigeon River to race to the finish line. The first shark to cross the finish line will win the 2009 Nissan Cube grand prize.

“Individuals who purchase a ticket for this year’s Shark Race have the chance to win a great grand prize, but there are also five other exciting prizes,” said Elaina DeLozier, United Way of Sevier County marketing and resource development manager. “We are thrilled about what this year’s race offers ticket holders from the grand prize all the way to the fifth runner-up prize.”

Prizes for the 6th Annual Great Gatlinburg Shark Race include: a 2009 Nissan Cube, a one week Smoky Mountain vacation package, 35 carat amethyst, 3 day/2 night vacation, Nintendo Wii and VIP attraction passes to Sevierville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg amusements for six people.

Shark tickets can be purchased for $10 and are on sale at each of the following participating ticket sale locations: Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies, Sevier County Food City store locations, Gatlinburg Welcome Centers, the Gatlinburg Chamber of Commerce and East Tennessee Nissan of Morristown. “Purchasing a ticket for the Shark Race is a fun way to show your support for our community and have a chance to win some great prizes at the same time,” said DeLozier.

All proceeds from the Great Gatlinburg Shark Race will benefit the United Way of Sevier County and its 24 Community Partners.
