Story by: City of Knoxville   |   October 14, 2009   |   Current News   |   No Comments

100-block-gay-streetOctober 14, 2009 – The City of Knoxville will host a meeting updating the status of the Gay Street Streetscapes project at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20 at the Emporium Building, 100 S. Gay Street.

This is part of a series of meetings to talk with residents and business owners about the ongoing construction activity on the 100 and 200 blocks of Gay Street. Among the items that will be discussed during the meeting will be the reconstruction of the street and sidewalks on the 200 Block of Gay, scheduled to start October 15.

The near $4 million Gay Street Streetscapes project is slated to last 18 months and includes much needed repair and reconstruction work on the underground structures supporting the block – which was raised above the original street in 1919. The work also includes the replacement of the street and both sidewalks, major utility upgrades and streetscape improvements.

More information about the project is available at www.cityofknoxville.org/policy/100block
