Safety City Receives Donation for Halloween in the City

Story by City of Knoxville
October 23, 2009

safetycityhalloween200October 23, 2009 – Knoxville Police Chief Sterling Owen announced a date change for the 9th Annual Halloween in the City at Safety City event. The popular Halloween party will be held on Friday, October 30, 2009, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Chief Owen said, “Due to the University of Tennessee home football game on Halloween night, we made the decision to move the highly anticipated Safety City party to Friday night, October 30, 2009. This will allow families to participate together in a fun and safe Halloween event without the need to miss the UT game.”

Halloween in the City at Safety City was established after the terrorists attack on September 11, 2001. The free event was designed to provide a safe Halloween experience for children. Since 2001, the event has continued to grow in popularity with thousands of East Tennessee families participating in the activities. safetycitydonation

To help fund the 2009 Halloween in the City event, a special donation was made by Cindy Doyle of the Cindy Doyle State Farm Agency. The very generous $2,000.00 donation is part of the Sate Farm Good Neighbor Service Month Grant. The donation will help provide for fun games and activities.

Chief Owen said, “State Farm has been a tremendous asset to the City of Knoxville and Safety City. In addition to their support with the Halloween party, State Farm continues to promote fire safety for children through the Fire Safety House.”

“We appreciate State Farm’s support and look forward to many years of working together to promote safety initiatives for children,” Chief Owen concluded.
