On Thursday, Dec. 10, the Airport Hilton will feature a fashion runway, as Foothills Weight Loss Specialists and the Blount Memorial Weight Management Center host their Seventh Annual Bariatric Fashion Show to celebrate seven years of bariatric surgery and more than 50,000 pounds lost.

In addition to a fashion show featuring post-weight loss surgery models, the celebration includes weight loss surgery success stories and a salute to surgeons Mark Colquitt and Jonathan Ray of Foothills Weight Loss Specialists for their services to hundreds of patients.

“By modeling their former fat clothes, our models show the dramatic amount of weight lost following bariatric surgery,” said Colquitt. “At last year’s fashion show, the seven participants had lost a total of 746.5 pounds.”

Colquitt also pointed out that the testimonials and fashion show serve as an encouragement to other post-surgical patients and those contemplating bariatric surgery.

“The weight loss journey requires commitment and a positive attitude. Seeing other people who have succeeded can be the impetus that drives other patients to success.”

Improving weight loss statistics in Tennessee is important. According to a July 2009 report by Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Tennessee ranks fourth highest in the percentage of obese adults and fifth in the percentage of obese and overweight children in the U.S.

The health benefits that accompany weight loss include: increased life expectancy; long-term weight loss; and resolution or improvement of obesity-related health conditions such as adult-onset diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and certain cancers.

The free event begins at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public. For more information or to register to attend, call 865-980-5045 or visit http://www.foothillsweightloss.com.
