The Gatlinburg and Sevierville Chambers of Commerce partnered for the second year in a row to host the E.L.F. (Education & Leadership for the Future) Miniature golf tournament at Ripley’s Old MacDonald Farm Mini Golf in Sevierville on December 8, 2009. More than a dozen teams, made up of both businesses and high school students played in this Holiday-themed event which raised over $3,700.00. Every penny raised through this event goes directly to a fund for Sevier County Students to be used for dual enrollment scholarships and an “emergency fund.”
“It’s exciting to be able to work so closely with our friends at the Sevierville Chamber of Commerce to support what is vitally important to everyone in this community the education and well being of our children. We look forward to making this a yearly tradition!” stated Vicki Simms, Executive Director of the Gatlinburg Chamber of Commerce.
Sevierville Chamber Chief Executive Officer Brenda McCroskey echoed those words, stating “I hope we continue to work together as a community to support our educational system. This is just the beginning of a program that not only raises money for our students, but also encourages our students, teachers and community leaders to come together to raise funds for much needed resources.”
The major sponsors for this event were Ripley’s Old MacDonald Farm Mini Golf, Mountain Rentals of Gatlinburg, Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union, Collier Food Group, Dollywood, Food City, Hank’s Pizza, Mountain Rentals of Gatlinburg, Sam’s Club and The Thomas Group.
Players on more than a dozen teams enjoyed a round of highly competitive miniature golf on the courses, as staff from both chambers donned elf costumes to cheer the teams on.
