Wednesday morning, January 13, 2010, the MRI machine was removed from Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center, to be placed at the new LeConte Medical
When the MRI was installed at Fort Sanders Sevier, because of its weight and size, the magnet had to be taken through the roof of the hospital. Crane operating crews and professionals from GE were on-site to make sure the removal of the MRI was achieved in a safe and efficient manner.
First the roof/skylight over the machine had to be removed from the building, and then the MRI magnet was hoisted high into the air, so that the 11,500 pound machine didn’t have to travel over the occupied building. Between now and the opening of LeConte Medical Center on February 15, 2010, MRIs for patients will be performed in the mobile MRI unit. It feels like moving time at Fort Sanders Sevier!
Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center is a 79-bed acute care hospital and a 54-bed nursing home that has been serving the healthcare needs of Sevier County residents and visitors since 1965. A replacement medical center, LeConte Medical Center will open February 15, 2010. A member of Covenant Health, Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center provides the right care, right here.
