On September 19, 2010 the Knoxville Turkish Cultural Center sponsored a “Share the Wish Fundraiser” to benefit the Smoky Mountain Children’s Home.
The festivities included the presentation of authentic Turkish pastries, coffees, and other popular cuisine; as well as handmade items including scarves, lacework, and needlework which were all sold with proceeds to benefit the Home.
Director of Operations, Bob Maggard, and his wife Wanda, received the generous donation of $3,000.00 on behalf of the Smoky Mountain Children’s Home at the end of the event.
Executive Director of the Knoxville Turkish Cultural Center, Omer Casurluk, spoke of the excellence he observed at the Home during a recent visit.
In return, Maggard presented the Center with a special 90th Anniversary Limited Edition Paul Murray print of Hideaway, the face of The Home.
“We are overwhelmed by your generosity and your desire to teach your children to ‘give back’ to the comm
unity,” said Maggard.
In response to this expression of appreciation, Casurluk responded, “You do not need to thank us. The work being done at The Home is thanks enough.”
