Local /International Artist, Paul Murray, has donated the use of his piece of artwork to promote awareness and encourage donations to the Smoky Mountain Children’s Home.
The sketch entitled “Hideaway” has become the new “face” of SMCH. This image has been seen in all of the new promotional material for “The Home.” It helps the viewer connect with our cause and help reach their heart in a way that only Murray’s art can.
We are honored that our new “Give a Child a Chance” or (SMCH 90th Anniversary) fund raising campaign will be centered on “Hideaway”, who’s face has been printed on posters, limited prints and 29 original remarked proofs. Since its inception this spring the excitement and fund raising response has been an enormous success.
Murray has not only pledged his image and original remarks but has pledged his support with our ongoing campaigns. More fund raising efforts will be adorned with his impactful images…..hammering home the need for heart and help for our children. He has pledged an additional donation of $750.00 to support “The Home” and will be presenting it at 10:00AM, Tuesday Oct 12th at his Gatlinburg gallery. Murray has been raising funds for Smoky Mountain Children’s home at his gallery and on his website and through proceeds from his annual original show Oct. 9 – 17th, 2010.
Paul Murray, a world caliber talent has had a long career starting at the age of 10, where his paintings and commissions sold. Quitting school at age 13 to dedicate himself to preserving the unique and wonderful culture of the Appalachian people. The mountains and its people intrigued him deeply. Here he recognized the unique purity of such deep isolation, the hard struggle to survive, the pride and hundreds of years of knowledge kept alive in this hard place. His subjects have a richness within, that we find distant, strange, yet wonderful. His works often bring someone to tears…..awakening apart of the heart….a great compliment in these complex days.
Like his mentors, (Rembrandt, Wyeth & Rockwell), Murray is showing in museums across the nation and abroad, as well as his one man exhibitions, and his annual gallery shows in Gatlinburg and in Canada which bring people from around the continent to take home a piece of this rare talent.
His ability to capture the depth of soul is not only unique, but well mastered. Murray’s technique is one much suffered over, only bringing 1-2 pieces a year. That is why we at SMCH are so proud to have his heartfelt images to help us reach our goals.
Murray continually gives back to the community. His many donations to charities have helped raise more than a million dollars in the past. Now, Paul Murray and his wife, Kati Jane, have turned their attention to raising money for the Smoky Mountain Children’s Home.
The Smoky Mountain Children’s Home is honored to have Paul’s hauntingly beautiful images represent their message of hope and healing for hurting children. SMCH offers thanks and gratitude to the Murray’s for their genuine support and efforts on our behalf.
