Managers at Great Smoky Mountains National Park have announced that the expected reopening of the Jakes Creek and Little River Trailheads has been set back by one week. They now expect the two trailheads, which are located in the Elkmont area of the Park about eight miles west of Gatlinburg, TN, to be open to hikers on Saturday morning, October 23.

The trailheads have been closed since July 6 while a contractor constructs three parking areas and repaves all the connecting roads within the Elkmont Historic District. Use of the Elkmont Campground is not affected.
