NOC’s Great Outpost and Anna Porter Public Library have joined forces this November to encourage people of all ages to engage in healthy activities for the mind and body by listening to audiobooks while enjoying exercise in the great outdoors.
Beginning November first, Media Specialists at APPL are leading Audiobook Download classes at the library each first Monday of the month from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Participants will learn to download books via the Regional eBook and Audiobook Download System, a free online system allowing APPL users to download books in digital form for use on their personal listening devices. Participants will be encouraged to take their newly downloaded audiobooks outdoors and listen while enjoying hikes through the National Park or walks in their own neighborhoods. Combining audiobooks and walking can make the time spent doing both activities seem more pleasant, making time pass quickly. APPL and NOC’s Great Outpost hope to encourage adults and children to spend more time outside exercising their bodies, challenging their minds and enjoying the natural surroundings of the great outdoors.
Beginning Nov. 15 a discussion group for the hiking audiobook listeners will meet around the fireplace at NOC’s Great Outpost, located at Stoplight 10 on Parkway, at 10:00 a.m. to discuss the books they have listened to over the past few weeks. The group is designed for attendees to share their favorite books as well as their favorite local walking paths and hiking trails. Discussion meetings will continue every third Monday of the month.
Participants in the discussion are not required to attend the READS download class at APPL, and all are welcome to join in the discussion at the Great Outpost.
