LeConte Medical CenterFort Sanders Sevier Nursing Home will join nursing homes across Tennessee to celebrate Nursing Home Caregiver Appreciation Day Friday, Nov. 19. This day recognizes the contributions and achievements of more than 37,600 nursing home employees across the state who provide care to nursing home patients.

These employees, including nurses, certified nursing assistants, dietitians, therapists, activity directors, social workers, housekeepers, maintenance workers and cooks, work together, along with volunteers, to provide the best quality of care for their patients. In addition to providing medical care, these men and women are responsible for meeting the patients’ mental, social, emotional and spiritual needs.

In recognition of Nursing Home Caregiver Appreciation Day, Fort Sanders Sevier Nursing Home will celebrate with a Thanksgiving luncheon on November 19 for residents and families.

“This year’s Nursing Home Caregiver Appreciation Day theme is ‘Rising Above the Crowd,’ and this is a great phrase to describe those who provide care to the elderly and disabled,” said Ellen Wilhoit, administrator of the facility. “Our employees often go above and beyond their regular duties for our patients. It is my honor to recognize them on this special day.”

For many, working as a caregiver in a nursing home is not just a job; it’s a calling, explained Terry Franklin, Director of Nursing at Fort Sanders Sevier. “Working in long-term care is challenging, but it’s also rewarding,” she said. “In addition to providing the highest quality of care, we also comfort and encourage our patients. I know I make a difference in my patients’ lives as I work with them to help them meet their goals.”

Fort Sanders Sevier Nursing Home is a Division of LeConte Medical Center, and is a member of the Tennessee Health Care Association, a non-profit organization whose members include long-term care facilities located throughout the state.
