Instead of a topping-out event, the LeConte Center at Pigeon Forge will mark the construction milestone of placing the last piece of structural steel for the $45 million project by gathering signatures of people involved with the project on that beam.
Workers for Merit Construction will sign the steel beam during a lunch break, while city officials and others will gather for a 3 p.m. opportunity for photos and interviews.
Commissioner Susan Whitaker of the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development will attend. Also, the entire board of the National Quartet Convention, which is moving to the LeConte Center at Pigeon Forge, will attend.
The center is under budget and on schedule to open in September 2013.
The ceremony location is under roof, so weather will not be a factor.
Parking for the “Signing of the Steel” will be at the south end of the Pigeon Forge Municipal Parking Facility. Enter off of Teaster Lane.
