Kenny (Ken) L. Maples has announced his candidacy for Pigeon Forge City Commission.
Maples will be seeking his first term in the May 12 election. “Ever since obtaining passion for public service from my late father, I’ve had an ambition to follow in his footsteps as a Pigeon Forge Commissioner, Maples said. I am fortunate to have been raised in Pigeon Forge by parents who taught me to respect others and to give back by serving and helping people.”
Maples is a lifelong resident of Pigeon Forge/Sevier County and married to Mary Hope (Wolfenbarger) Maples. He has four children and employed with Comfort Inn & Suites at Dollywood Lane in Pigeon Forge.
He is a past president of the Pigeon Forge Hospitality Association, graduate of Leadership Sevier, member of the Pigeon Forge Rotary Club, board member of the Sevier County Economic Development Council and Chair of the Tennessee Hospitality and Tourism Association.
If elected, Maples said that he would focus on several primary goals such as additional alternate routes and improved traffic flow; responsible financial management; public health, safety and security; and keeping taxes low by encouraging economic growth. Other important goals are short and long-term housing; beautification and environment; mass transit/trolley expansion; cooperation and collaboration; and continued responsible investment in our city advertising campaign.
Maples said that we must find additional ways to work together to make our city mutually beneficial for residents and businesses alike. “Working together for common goals is what Pigeon Forge has done for years and we must continue to seek mutual interest in an effort to move our city in a unified and positive direction, Maples stated.”
“The bottom line is that commissioners are accountable and answerable to the taxpayers to invest tax dollars wisely and in a financially responsible way. If elected, I will take this part of my job to heart and always be mindful that commissioners are elected to represent the taxpayers first and foremost, Maples said.”
