Little by Little
by Travis Russell
And the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you little by little; you will be unable to destroy them at once, lest the beasts of the field become too numerous for you.
Deuteronomy 7:22
In the book of Deuteronomy, the Lord God is prepping and preparing His people for the life He has for them in the future. They had been in bondage in Egypt for four centuries, and now God was doing something new with Israel. However, there were obstacles ahead of them that they were not ready to confront. In order for the Israelites to receive the land that God had promised them, they had to drive other nations out of the land, and God knew the best way to do it.
In our lives, sometimes we want all that God has for us now. Since we live in a microwave generation where we can cook everything fast, we get anxious when we have to wait on anything. But God knows what is best for us and knows when to give it to us. The Israelites could not maintain the land if God would have immediately destroyed every one of their enemies; they were not ready for that, and God knew it. He would accomplish His plan though His people little by little.
God always moves in the best interest of His children. God has a plan for our lives and knows exactly when to move mountains, and when to present us with a trial. Life is tuff, but God will help His people through the difficulties. Known to God from eternity are all His works (Acts 15:18), and He knows the best time for those works. God’s ultimate plan for you is that you are conformed to the image of Christ Himself (Romans 8:29), and everything you face in life is in pursuit of that goal. The Bible encourages us to draw near to God, and in return, He will draw near to us (James 4:8).
Journeys in life are always accomplished through steps; God knows what you can handle spiritually, and He will accomplish His plan in you little by little. Hold on to God, and do not get ahead of Him; when you are ready, God will do marvelous things through you. With that in mind, every day of your life should be a step closer to God. Try to pray one more time today, and read one more chapter of your bible. All the while, you will be getting a step closer to God, little by little, and when you are ready for that next level, God will take you there. Seek the Lord while He can be found, call upon Him while He is near (Isaiah 55:6).
Soli Deo Gloria.
