The Tennessee Museum of Aviation is gearing up for our annual “new coats for kids” charitable program, designated Operation Warm Wings. Thanksgiving and Christmas are just days away, and this time of year brings to mind, the warmth of living in an area rich in family values, and the thoughts of giving to those less fortunate.
The goal of Operation Warm Wings is to furnish new winter coats for deserving children within the Sevier County community. The last few years, we have used the donations to help the children enrolled in the Sevier County Head Start Program. A “new” coat can bring self-esteem to a small child, and therefore a sense of worth and confidence in their own merit.
Since the program started in 2002 nearly 1200 new winter coats have been distributed. As in years past, only the generosity of the Sevier County residents, and business owners, will make this year’s objective a success. This charitable program would not be possible without the overwhelming support of the community. We want encourage everyone involved in the past to make an effort to help again, as we try to fulfill the needs of children in the Sevier County community.
If you would like to help by providing a new winter coat for a child or make a cash donation to the Operation Warm Wings program, please contact the museum at 908-0171, extensions 27 or 29. A museum volunteer or staff member will be pleased to provide a list of needed coat sizes. Our estimated goal is to have 100 new winter coats to distribute by November 23, 2009.
