Doors opened wide in a festive display of beautiful spring bouquets (designed by D’Garden Florist) at the Pigeon Forge Holiday Inn on Thursday, April 14th as guests were welcomed to the tenth annual Sevier County Citizenship Award Dinner.
Created to encourage volunteerism, philanthropy and community involvement, the award, given annually, recognizes an outstanding person who repeatedly demonstrates his or her care for the community and its citizens. Previous honorees include: Betty Madison Ogle, Earl Worsham, Linda N. Ogle, Grant Cantwell, Lorraine Hendricks, Bill Carroll, David Ratliff, Jim Gerding, Emily B. Kyle, and Jim & Kati Blalock.
Special entertainment was provided by Rick Fair; Carroll McMahan and Brenda McCroskey shared stories and words of praise for this year’s honoree Jim McGill. Mayor Bryan Atchley also read a Proclamation Letter proclaiming April 14, 2011 as “Jim McGill Day”.
Brenda Byrd (The Thomas Group) and Lena Adams (Sevier County Director) presented the award to the honoree. In graciously accepting the award, Jim expressed his appreciation and support for the services and dedication that Senior Citizens Home Assistance Service (SCHAS) provides to the citizens of Sevier and 19 surrounding counties.
All proceeds from the Sevier County Citizenship Award Dinner and auction will be used to support the work of SCHAS in Sevier County.
The evening ended with Jeannie Allen and Sue Barker providing lots of laughs and fun as they auctioned off three wonderful gifts and announced the silent auction winners.
A special thank you to all of our sponsors, board members and SCHAS staff for their hard work and dedication in making the evening such a success.
