Spring is in the air, and it’s time for the annual Covenant Health Check, East Tennessee’s longest-running community health screening program. Join LeConte Medical Center for

free medical screenings and reduced priced blood work on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, 8 a.m. – 11 a.m., at the Sevierville Community Center, located at 200 Gary Wade Blvd.
Free screenings for 2011 include blood pressure, body composition/BMI, bone density, carotid artery ultrasound, and more! Hemoccult Kits (take-home colon cancer screening kits) will be available at all sites for $2.
And, for an extra dose of “heart health,” participants can check out their six risk factors for heart disease at each site’s Know Your Six area. Risk factors include blood pressure, BMI, cholesterol/glucose (fee, see below), sleep habits and activity levels.
Discounted blood tests available at each Health Check Site include:
- CHC profile – $20 (12-hour fasting recommended for accurate results; those with diabetes should check with a physician before fasting.) Test includes chemistry profile (glucose, potassium, calcium, etc.), cholesterol (total, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides), and liver enzymes
- Complete blood Count (CBC) – $15. Test includes red and white blood cell count, hematocrit, platelets, etc.
- Thyroid (thyroid stimulating hormone) – $20
- Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA prostate cancer screening) for men – $20
- C-reactive protein (High Sensitivity) – $20. Measures heart disease risk and indicates arterial inflammation, especially recommended for those whose cholesterol and blood pressure are above desirable levels.
- Hemoglobin A1C (HbA1C) – $20 – measures the amount of sugar (glucose) in a person’s blood over the last three months.
