Calling all citizens concerned for the wellbeing of Great Smoky Mountain National Park’s forests!
On June 18th, 2011, beginning at 9:00 am, at the Twin Creeks Nature Center, DLIA will host the Tree Team Training program. This program’s goal is to create long-term teams of volunteers trained to undertake seasonal active collections and data compilations. Tree Teams will survey arthropods collected at each site to determine virtually unknown ecological linkages between flora and fauna.
Fieldwork will be conducted in relatively easily accessible areas, on both Tennessee and North Carolina sides of the park, using a variety of collection techniques. Following the collections, analysis of specimens and data recording will be the final steps of the process. For this first endeavor, the focus will be on the American Beech tree.
Registration in advance is required for this program. Contact Todd Witcher, executive director of DLIA, at 865-430-4757 or todd@dlia.org.
