Focus Topics

Smoky Mountain Children's Home LogoBiting 101 & Potty Training
Biting 101 is a program for parents and child care providers that will help adults understand why children bite and what we can do as adults to reduce this unwanted behavior. Potty Training 101 is a program for parents and child care providers that will discuss developmentally appropriate strategies for preparing children (and parents/providers) for the world of successful potty training.

What To Do With The Mad That You Feel?
This session not only provides strategies for helping adults deal with unwanted behaviors but digs deeper to help adults understand WHY kids misbehave. By understanding why children exhibit “negative” behaviors, educators can become a bit more patient and identify which strategies will work best with children who are difficult.

Reading to Young Children:
Will provide resources/books/strategies for “how” to read to young children. It’s more than just reading the words on the page.
