LETHAL WEAPONSGATLINBURG, TENNESSEE

Sometimes you truly have to see to believe! In the case of the heart-pounding exhibit at Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies, you will be dazzled and mesmerized by the pure ferocity and strength of dozens of the most shocking and deadly creatures of the sea, along with a host of hands-on interactive displays that will truly leave any visitor with a tingling spine and every hair on their body standing straight up!

“Lethal Weapons” takes visitors beyond the traditional “Jaws” cliche’ to discover some of the most lethal animals on earth, exploring their daily struggle for survival. The show, created specifically for Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies, is free with admission and will be on display throughout the rest of 2009.

Lethal Weapons allows Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies’ guests the opportunity to see some of the deadliest inhabitants of the sea! An exciting element to the presentation is a hands-on opportunity to help guests understand the constant battle between the peaceful population of the sea and the lethal animals who dive deep in these same waters, for survival.

For millenniums the sea has evoked the serene harmony of nature, but beneath this placid exterior, there’s a battle of the fittest. The sea is a war zone. To survive, every living creature is engaged in an ever-escalating race to the finish. The stakes are huge for each creature of the sea: life or death; survival or extinction.

As the name Lethal Weapons implies, the exhibit is loaded with examples of those survivors. Everything from a Portuguese Man of War who stings everything it touches to crowns of thorns starfish…the most lethal coral predator’s on the planet are on display. When visiting Lethal Weapons the possibilities are limitless. Tangle with a golf ball sized warrior that packs enough poison to kill 26 humans! Match skills with an insect assassin that shoots down tree-bound bugs! Challenge a boxing shrimp that lands a punch with the force of a bullet! Marvel at a lethal snail that catches and devours fish! Experience an electric eel that generates a 500-volt jolt!

Whatever your poison, Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies’ Exhibit “Lethal Weapons” is truly a sight you have to see…to believe.

Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies is located at traffic light #5 on the Parkway in Gatlinburg and is open year round. For more information please call 888-240-1358.
