In some form or fashion, music is the soundtrack to our lives. Whether it be a lullaby we were sung as a child, a hymn that we sang in church, the song on the radio during our first kiss, or “our song” at our 50th wedding anniversary…music is the eternal flame that molds generations and crosses timeless boundaries for all. There are those songs that never seem to get old…the songs that we play on the radio over and over. The songs that we hum throughout the day to pick up our spirits. The songs that we sing out loud, and when heard, everyone jumps in on the chorus. Whether you grew up listening to them or you’ve just recently sung “My Girl” to your very first girlfriend, The Temptations were the pioneers of what we now know as the “Magic” of Motown and have crossed that timeless musical boundary.
The most successful group in black music history was formed in Detroit in 1961. In 1963, the lineup, David Ruffins, Eddie Kendricks, Melvin Franklin, Otis Williams and Paul Williams celebrated their first #1 Hit, “The Way You Do The Things You Do”.
Known world wide for their silky smoothness, choreography, distinct harmonies and definitive style, The Temptations (or The Five Kings of Motown) continued their reign at the top of the charts. With hits like “Get Ready”, “Just My Imagination”, “The Girls Alright with Me”, “I Wish it Would Rain”, and “Beauty’s Only Skin Deep”.
The Temptations recorded over 50 albums…with 50 pop and 51 R&B singles in the top ten! They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 and in 1990, four of the original lead singers joined with Nate Evans, fellow Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee with “Curtis Mayfield and The Impressions”, to form the Temptations Revue…traveling throughout the world receiving the same recognition as they did in the group’s heyday.
Today,
Nate Evans is joined with Ritchie Stanley, Greg Lee, Curtis Taylor and Reggie Reed to bring the music of the ages straight to Pigeon Forge! Enjoy Nate…The Temptations’ timeless tunes, some special guests and a few wonderful stories from the history of Motown at the all new Smoky Mountain Theater, Tuesday thru Sunday at 7:30 pm, with a special 2:30 pm matinee every Saturday!
