A rock band is only as good as the connection that they share between one another…for the boys of The Few (formerly known as Thoroughfare) it was about not only making music but finding something that they could believe in. With the addition of lead vocalist Lindsey Stamey (formerly of Vertigo) it seems as if The Few has taken what once was a well-established rock band and has charted a new territory. With an already energetic fan base and tour dates with some of today’s most well-known rock bands, I sat down with The Few to focus in on their creative stage presence, their music, and what’s next for this explosive rock band from Knoxville, TN.

Well…it’s OFFICIAL The Few is like a wrecking ball of rock music in full force and on tour. Tell us about the new band, members, and the background of how all of this started?

Everything came together very quickly with The Few.  Colin (drums), Cameron (keys), Thomas (bass) and Seth (guitar) were in the former band Thoroughfare from Knoxville, TN and Lindsey Stamey (vocals) was the singer for Vertigo for the entire stint of their career that lasted over 5 years.

It seems as if The Few has become this wild animal that has just…automatically come alive. How has the band become such a force in such a short time?

We’ve been working our butts off…literally. We are very surprised at how fast things have been moving.  Basically Thoroughfare had tour dates in February of 2010 that we wanted to keep and we had about a month and a half to get everything together and organized. Luckily everything has been working especially well and we didn’t waste anytime. We have been surprising ourselves lately.

As of right now you have a two song EP available to the public. Tell us about the background of the songs and why it was important to release these two songs before an actual album?

Well, probably less than two weeks after we hired Lindsey we were ready and lucky enough to be able to go into the studio.  We originally had aspirations of doing a 5 song EP, which we have a majority of each song recorded, but when it came down to it we only had enough production time and money to finish 3 songs.  Two of which are on hard copy now and we are waiting on the 3rd that will be on the next run of cd’s.

So…are you in the studio right now recording your debut album? Can you give us the low-down…maybe a spoiler or two?

Writing is definitely number one priority right now.  We have a good bit of tour dates coming up in April and a majority of the summer will consist of touring, so we are writing as much as possible right now so we will have a hefty catalog when the time is right. We are doing a little shopping right now as well, so we are trying to get as much material into the right peoples hands as possible.

Being on tour…how have the fans taken the line-up change?

The crowds have taken the change better than we expected.  I think a huge part of that is because the first song of our set Lindsey comes out and blows everyone’s faces off with her vocals and then continues to do so throughout the set. So we have been getting great responses so far.

With Lindsey now on board…are you starting to see more females in the audience?

Really we’ve just been getting more of a response from everyone, males and females.  We hear a lot of the “I Love You” in the audience directed towards Lindsey from the males.  Guys in the other bands we play with do a lot of drooling after they hear Lindsey sing…. she gets hit on a lot, but the ladies love her as well.  Sometimes she gets hit on by them too. [laughs]

Just for the record…I caught your very first hometown show at The Square Room in Downtown Knoxville. Verdict: Best Local Rock Show I’ve Seen…Period. I have to be honest…I didn’t know what to expect. My hat’s off to the intensity and sheer passion and love for music that each individual in the band has. Lindsey’s voice is simply brilliant with the band’s rock flair. So…what’s behind the raw energy of your live show? And how has it evolved as you play the new material more?

We have all been huge fans of very energetic shows and that’s what all of us have been trying to do for a long time, but lately its been a lot easier.  The chemistry between all of us is so much better now and we feel that on stage, so we want to put everything we have into our live show because that is what we are doing off the stage as well.

Local radio station 94.3X has really been a huge supporter for The Few since your debut a couple of months ago…what’s the background of that relationship?

To tell you the truth our good friend OZ from 94.3 is one of the biggest supporters of just local music in general.  He brought back the all-local radio show called “The Local X” that airs Sunday nights 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and he does nothing but showcase local and regional bands.  That is a great thing to have anywhere, but he has really helped us out with getting us some airtime.  We are very appreciative of that.

Collectively, what are some of your influences that have helped establish your sound and direction?

A wide range of bands and sounds really.  Probably some of the biggest influences are Bjork, Incubus, Muse, Rage Against The Machine, Circa Survive and many more.  Those are some of the ones that all of us respect and draw inspiration from.

So…we’ve seen the videos of you dancing and singing when you’re on the tour bus…but besides your sweet dance moves…how does the band pass the time between shows?

Well we do a lot of driving, but we are lucky enough to have a T.V. with a Game Cube, so we play A LOT of Mario Kart Double Dash and Monkey Ball.  We like going bowling as well. [Laughs]

I have to know…how much fun was the paint photo shoot? Splattering paint in the face of another band member just seems…fun! How did that idea come about?

That was a really fun shoot.  Our photographer Jacob Long did an amazing job.  We wanted to get out of the box a little bit with our photos, so we gave the paint idea a shot and it really turned out well.  Slinging paint in the faces of the others was pretty fun.

What’s next for The Few?

Touring, writing, working our butts off and hopefully some of the spoils that come along with doing those things well.

Are there any big shows lined up in the near future that we should know about…anything special in the works?

YES!  We have all kinds of amazing tours coming up.  Our booking agent Tim Corser is doing an amazing job. So far we are touring with Tantric, Saliva and just one show with RED and there are some talks about a show or two with Gin Blossoms and The Wall Flowers, which would be amazing!  Everyone will have to stay tuned to our tour calender on myspace.com/soundofthefew or find us on Facebook (search The Few) to see where and when those show take place.

Now is the time for shameless promotion…how do your fans get more of The Few?

Right now our only means of online media are myspace.com/soundofthefew; TheFewBand of Facebook, Youtube and ilike.com.  We will have a proper .com website in the near future, but these sites we have now are pretty cool.  Please check them out and help spread the word!!

In my last ditch effort to describe The Few, any parting words of enlightenment?

We have made the task of trying to make amazing music and entertaining people our careers. This is our passion and we are doing everything that we know to do to make a product people enjoy and want to see.  We can only hope that we are successful in doing so.
