titansNASHVILLE, Tenn. — Winners of their last three games, the Tennessee Titans (3-6) this week travel to play the AFC South Division rival Houston Texans (5-4) on Monday Night Football. It will be the Titans’ first and only game on Monday night this season. Kickoff at Reliant Stadium (capacity 71,054) is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CST on Nov. 23.

The Titans will have the opportunity to avenge a Week 2 loss to the Texans at LP Field. In that game, despite a total of 449 yards of offense and a record-setting performance by running back Chris Johnson (197 rushing yards, 284 total scrimmage yards), the Titans were unable to fend off the Texans and lost 34-31 on a 23-yard field goal by Kris Brown.

THE BROADCAST

ESPN will broadcast the game to a national television audience. In the Nashville market, the game can be seen on WKRN News 2. Mike Tirico will handle play-by-play duties, while Ron Jaworski and Jon Gruden will provide color commentary.

The Titans Radio Network, including Nashville flagship 103.3-WKDF, will broadcast the game across the Mid-South with the “Voice of the Titans” Mike Keith, color commentator Frank Wycheck, sideline reporter Cody Allison and gameday host Larry Stone.titans_texans_helmets

Westwood One Radio Sports will carry the national radio broadcast. Marv Albert (play-by-play), Warren Moon (color commentary) and Tony Boselli (sidelines) will provide the call.

LAST WEEK

The Titans defeated the Buffalo Bills 41-17 last week at LP Field. Defensive backs Vincent Fuller and Rod Hood sealed the game with interception returns for touchdowns, and the Titans scored 30 or more points for the third straight week.

Running back Chris Johnson rushed for 132 yards on 26 carries and added 100 yards on nine receptions, accounting for 232 of the team’s 378 total yards. He became the second player in franchise history (Billy Cannon, 12/10/61) to reach 100 receiving yards and 100 rushing yards in the same game.

Johnson, who also scored two touchdowns against the Bills, leads the NFL with 1,091 rushing yards. He is one of three players in NFL history—Jim Brown (1963) and Adrian Peterson (2007) are the others—to rush for 1,000 yards and average 6.4 yards per carry in his team’s first nine games of a season.

THE TEXANS

The Texans, who will have two weeks to prepare for the Titans, own a 5-4 record coming out of their bye last week. They last played Nov. 8 at Indianapolis and nearly forced overtime against the division-leading Colts. However, a Kris Brown field goal attempt at the end of regulation sailed wide left, and the Colts prevailed 20-17.

The Texans offense has been one of the NFL’s best this season, as evidenced by their sixth overall NFL ranking. Quarterback Matt Schaub is ranked sixth in the NFL with a 98.1 passer rating and third in passing yards (2,653). His primary target, wide receiver Andre Johnson, is third in the league with 800 receiving yards.
