Alcatraz East Crime Museum, located in Pigeon Forge, is putting the notorious crime story on display

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (October 9, 2024) – Anyone who follows true crime in America has heard of Ted Bundy. He is one of the most notorious serial killers and rapists America has ever known. While he was executed in 1989, many people still find his story of interest, wanting to learn more about how such a charming and well-educated man could be such a violent and sadistic criminal. Alcatraz East Crime Museum is covering his story in a new exhibit titled “42 Witnesses: Ted Bundy’s Final Days.”

“Many lives were impacted by this horrible story, which is why we all want to learn more about it,” says Ally Pennington, artifacts and programs manager at Alcatraz East Crime Museum. “The more we know about such criminals, the more we can try to protect ourselves and our communities from similar situations.”

The new exhibit will officially open on October 11, 2024, and will stay until October 2026. The focus of the exhibit will be on Bundy’s final days leading up to his execution in January 1989. He confessed to murdering 30 women, but many believe he could have taken the lives of more than 100 victims. In several areas of the country, he would lure young women to his car as he pretended that he was hurt and needed help. He would then kidnap, rape and murder the women.

The exhibit focuses on his last days, including his final escape from prison, the last time he was arrested, and his execution. This exhibit will also prove the correct birth year of Bundy’s only child, which has been previously misreported. Original artifacts in the exhibit include a uniform from the Pensacola, Fla. police, a commemorative Bundy execution shirt, and a typewriter that Bundy used. Bundy was arrested in Pensacola on February 15, 1978, and went on to receive multiple death sentences.

“We are also inviting homeschoolers to spend the day exploring and learning,” said Pennington. “We always have interesting and thought-provoking activities in which people can get involved.”

Homeschool families and groups can save money as they enhance their educational experience. All through October 2024, they can get tickets for $12 per person, plus tax. Groups of 10 or more that pre-book can get tickets for $10 per person, plus tax. Groups can pre-book by emailing groupsales@alcatrazeast.com.

On October 5, 2024, Alcatraz East hosted a graffiti contest. First, second, and third place winners were announced at the end of the competition. First place was awarded to Andres Zambrano with second place going to Steve Hall and third place to William Love. In addition to monetary prizes, these winning pieces will be displayed in the museum alongside those created by other finalists.

The museum features over 100 exhibits and interactives and four temporary exhibit spaces, with many famous items on display, including Al Capone’s rosary, Ted Bundy’s dental molds, and Charles Manson’s acoustic guitar. This top museum is open at 10 am daily.
