Crack the Case: Alcatraz East Crime Museum Marks National STEM Day with Forensic Fun

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (November 4, 2025) – National STEM Day is observed annually to highlight the importance of STEM and STEAM careers. To celebrate this year’s event, Alcatraz East Crime Museum will highlight careers in the forensic science field and provide numerous hands-on labs. The special events will take place on November 8, 2025, with the labs running from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, and are included in the regular admission fee.

“This is an exciting day each year and a chance for us to all inspire the younger generation,” said Rhiannon Taylor, sales and marketing manager at Alcatraz East Crime Museum. “We are happy to be able to make it a special day and highlight the important role that STEM and STEAM careers play in our community.”

Alcatraz East Crime Museum’s special STEM day will highlight the vital role that forensic science careers play and showcase the path to working in the field. The variety of jobs in the field includes positions such as crime scene investigator, forensic technician, medical examiner, forensic nurse, behavioral scientist, fingerprint technician, and many others.

The museum will host a variety of labs throughout the day, focusing on chemical reactions and fingerprinting in forensics. They will be held in the lobby and are included in the general admission fee. The labs provide people with a chance to see firsthand the impact that STEM has and offer a glimpse of how it is applied.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, November 8 is considered National STEM Day each year, providing an opportunity to celebrate education and work in those fields. STEM/STEAM career fields include science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. The field offers a wide variety of career opportunities, including computer programming, engineering, chemistry, mathematics, and forensic science, which helps solve crimes. They report that average wages for STEM occupations are well above the U.S. average. In recent years, the country has fallen behind on theworld stage in STEM education, and it is actively working to turn that around by inspiring its youth.

“This is going to be a great day to bring the kids by to inspire them to consider STEM-related career fields,” Taylor said. “Some adults may even become inspired enough to warrant a career change, which is great. We welcome everyone to celebrate National STEM Day with us!”
